Do you ever receive an email with a link and aren’t sure where it actually leads? It could be a fraudulent website trying to steal your login credentials or other sensitive information. And it’s not just emails—scam websites can appear even during regular web browsing. TrafficLight is a free browser extension that warns you about suspicious or fraudulent websites before you even open them. In this guide, we’ll show you how to add it to your browser and how it works in practice.

How does it work?

  • Before a webpage loads, it checks whether the site contains malware or phishing.
  • In search results, it displays icons: = safe, = dangerous.
  • TrafficLight is not an antivirus and won’t protect against malware in attachments.

How to set up the extension?

To download the extension, click the following link: Bitdefender TrafficLight.

  • 1. On the page, click the "Free Download" button

  • 2. Then add the extension to your browser by clicking "Add to Chrome".

  • 3. Confirm the installation and wait until it’s fully completed.

  • 4. In the top right corner, open Extensions (the puzzle icon), click the pin next to TrafficLight, and the extension will appear on the toolbar.

  • All done! A green check mark (✓) will appear on legitimate sites, and a red cross (X) will show on suspicious or phishing sites.
