Protect yourself from phishing: set up anti-phishing in INET
Phishing is the most common form of cyberattack targeting users and does not spare Masaryk University. Attackers are increasingly imitating official communications from university systems, which can be difficult to recognize. For this reason, INET offers an anti-phishing feature that helps you distinguish legitimate emails from fraudulent ones.
Generic phishing emails with grammatical mistakes and nonsensical content can be recognized at first glance. Today, however, we also encounter emails whose content has been convincingly generated by artificial intelligence and contains only a minimal number of errors. In phishing attacks targeting Masaryk University, attackers sometimes convincingly mimic regular emails coming from INET, IS, or the M365 environment, among others. Such emails are not easy to identify and require heightened user attention and caution. This how-to guide explains how to set up anti-phishing protection in INET, which will help you distinguish legitimate emails from fraudulent ones.
Anti-Phishing Feature — How It Works
The anti-phishing feature, which you can set up in INET, works by allowing you to configure your own custom text accompanied by emojis (icons) that will always appear at the beginning of emails sent from INET. If you receive a fraudulent email from an attacker pretending to be INET, this text with the icons will not be present. In such cases, you should stay alert, check the sender’s address for any “typos” (e.g., munl.cz instead of muni.cz), and, if necessary, report the email to the Cyber Security Team of Masaryk University.
How to set up anti-phishing?
You can set up anti-phishing in INET in two simple steps:
-
1. Log in to INET and click on “Settings” in the top right corner.
-
2. Now choose your icons and enter any text you want to appear in emails from INET. We recommend selecting at least two icons and 1–2 words for clear visibility in the email. Then click “Save.”
-
The icons and text you set will then appear in emails from INET.
